Our hands-on and practical course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed to work in the dynamic and developing Horticulture sector. Students will study areas such as Plant Identification, Plant Science, Soil Management and Fruit & Veg Production. Students on this course are assisted with work experience placements.

Please note the components listed above may vary occasionally.
You will have a mixture of classroom-based subjects, practicals and work placements. You will be expected to complete assignments throughout the year and exams for some modules will take place at the end of the year.
Applicants with a passion for working with nature, a willingness to work hard, an interest in plants and gardening.
We also welcome applications from mature students on all our courses.

There are approximately forty Higher Education Institutions including Universities, Technological Universities and private colleges offering places on a range of courses to QQI full award certificate holders. Intending applicants are advised at all times to confirm linked awards, any additional module requirements, applications processes and scoring systems with the Admission Offices of the participating Higher Education Institutions or visit visit cao.ie.
Full awards can also be used for graduates' progression to Further Education level 6 or Level 7 and Level 8 programmes in Higher Education, such as, Teagas and Apprenticeship programmes - visit cao.ie for further information. This course will also provide you with a variety of career opportunities such as working in Landscaping and Gardening Centres, Parks/Grounds Keeping (OPW or City/Council Councils), Organic Food Production and even Starting Your Own Business.
