Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) Maintenance Grants
Students attending full-time approved Courses in Colaiste Ide for the 2014/2015 academic session are eligible to apply for a maintenance grant. The grant is available to first time PLC students.
Leisure-Point Sports Complex is on your doorstep, and for a nominal fee Colaiste Ide students may use the leisure centre.

Art & Design Portfolio Preparation Level 5
Students will develop their talents in a wide range of visual and artistic skills. Students will prepare a portfolio of work so that they may proceed to further study at Third level. This course gives students over the age of 18 the possibility to be selected for a Eramus + European mobility exchange (subject to funding).
Games Design & Development Level 5
This course offers the student the opportunity to explore and develop skills in many aspects of Design. It provides a solid foundation year for further studies. Fashion Design Level 5
This intensive portfolio course provides a strong grounding in drawing and design skills for entry into Third level. Students are introduced to the textiles and fashion disciplines of combined materials, embroidery, garment construction and pattern drafting.
Fashion and Textiles – Advanced Certificate
This course aims to further develop an understanding of professional art practice and introduce the essential elements of running a creative business. Ideal candidates should exhibit strong personal creativity and motivation, leadership skills, initiative, team working abilities and an aptitude for self directed learning.
Computer Aided Design- Pre University Architecture
Students will gain an understanding of the design process in the building environment. They will be able to operate a CAD system found in most modern design offices. They will be familiar with the latest computer hardware and software available within the Industry.
Accounting Technician (ATI)
The Accounting Technician course provides learners with knowledge of accounting concepts and principles of accounting together with knowledge and technical skills concerning the tax implications of personal and business transactions. It also provides the learner with an understanding of core Business functions.
Business Studies, Marketing and Human Resources Level 5
Students will gain a general education in the Business Studies area, together with a specialised knowledge of Marketing & Human Resources.
Office Administration with Reception Skills Level 5
Students will acquire the necessary skills to become proficient in modern office technology. They will also gain the knowledge and skills required for effective office administration.
Security Studies Level 5
To prepare students for employment within the security industry. The course is of particular relevance to students who are interested in a career in An Garda Siochana, Defence Forces, and Prison Services. The course involves an academic focus on the skills necessary for a career in security related industries.
Pre-University Science Level 5
This course will provide successful students with the knowledge and the entry requirements necessary to access science based programmes at higher education level. The course also aims to provide students with the knowledge and the skills necessary to gain employment in the science and pharmaceutical industries.
Food Science Level 5
This course can provide successful students with the knowledge and the entry requirements necessary to access some science based programmes at Third level. The course also aims to provide students with the skills necessary to gain employment in the food industry.
Business & Computer Applications Level 5
This course has been designed to provide the student with a strong foundation in computers and office applications. The fundamental emphasis of the programme is on developing the student’s proficiency in using computers in the office environment thus enhancing his / her employment opportunities in the Business/Information Technology (IT) sector.
Security Operations Level 6
This course provides students with the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a Security Supervisor in the industry. As part of their course work students complete two days work experience in a supervisory capacity with recognised security companies. Students should hold or have applied for a security licence.
Sports and Leisure Management Level 5
This course provides successful graduates with the opportunity to seek employment in the sport and leisure industry. Students gain the knowledge and understanding of physical fitness and exercise on both a practical and a theoretical basis.
Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor
This course aims to provide the successful graduates with the knowledge, skills and competence to work in the sports and leisure industry in careers such as personal training, group fitness instructing, pool lifeguard and sports massage therapy
Tourism with Business Level 6
This is a one year full-time Diploma course. The course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in the Travel and Tourism Industry. Students will also gain a broad understanding of Travel Agency and Airline Operations. This course is run under the auspices of the Irish Travel Agents Association.
Hospitality Operations Level 5
This is a one year course which allows students to explore hospitality operations. The course provides students with a range of hospitality service skills including customer relations, service and accommodation maintenance and food and beverage preparation. This course leads to a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Hospitality Operations (5M2083) and an Environmental Health Offices Association Certificate.
Tourism, Travel & Airline Studies (IATA) Level 5
This is a one year full-time course designed for those who wish to pursue a career in the Travel and Tourism Industry. Professional Cookery Level 6
This course is a one – year Post Leaving Certificate Course, which gives students the key skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a career in the Hospitality Industry. The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skills and competence to work autonomously using a range of specialized skills in a professional kitchen.
Hospitality Operations Level 6
This is a one year full-time course which gives students key skills and advanced knowledge necessary to pursue a career in the hospitality industry. The course provides students with an opportunity to obtain experience in a wide range of specialised and supervisory skills in key areas of hospitality enterprises such as front office supervision, food and beverage and business systems. Three days of week are in college and two days on work placement. This course gives students over the age of 18 the possibility of participating on a to Higher Education European mobility exchange. On the 15th June Colaiste Ide Students & Staff and Boost My Image Fitness club took part in Hell and Back in order to raise funds for St. Francis Hospice.
Clothes & Food for Homeless
Colaiste Ide students & staff walked around the streets of Dublin City Centre giving out clothes and food to homeless people.
St. Vincent De Paul Fundraiser
€600 was raised for St. Vincent De Paul in the Finglas area by Colaiste Ide students and staff.
Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS)
Return to fulltime education/training opportunities for unemployed adults. Participants must be over 21 years of age and in receipt of a social welfare payment for 6 months. Participation on VTOS programmes is free.
Back To Education Allowance (BTEA)
The Back to Education Allowance Scheme allows eligible applicants to return to full time education on 2nd and 3rd level programmes. People qualify in different ways, depending on their age and personal situation.
Back To Education Initiative (BTEI)
The Back to Education Initiative provides part time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. The aim is to give people an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other commitments.

Chef Ireland WACS Competition 2014
Students from the Professional cookery courses won silver and bronze medals in the Open Pasta competition and Bronze in the Open Pork and Muffin and Decorated gateaux Competition.

This VTOS course is aimed at those who are interested in returning to training or education but feel they need to improve their overall standard of general knowledge and study skills so they are "ready to return" to further training, education or on to employment.

Fashion and Textile Course broadcast Nationwide

Interview Day 20th of May
The next interview day for Colaiste Ide courses commencing on September 2015 will take place on Wednesday, the 20th of May 2015 from 1pm until 3pm. Please check out our available courses and apply on-line now.
Students will be given hands-on experience of electronic and electrical equipment, techniques and processes. The use of the computer as a modern tool for engineers will be emphasised throughout the course. Students will be encouraged to develop solutions to given problems using research and analysis. Trip to Baltinglass
Colaiste Ide Sports staff and students participating in a variety of outdoor team buildign activites in Baltinglass Outdoor Education and Training Centre.

Over the February Midterm break, the catering students visited the Catex Exhibition at the RDS where suppliers and chefs meet annually to discuss innovations within the industry and competitions are held between various colleges and professionals.
Professional Cookery Level 6 Culinary Event
Level 6 classes 8421 and 9221 are currently in the midst of running their Culinary Events in the restaurant in the college. These events have specific themes as chosen by each class team such as Around The World in 60 Minutes, Alice in Wonderland, Taste of Asia and Tex-Mex.

The Childcare class organised a cake sale in aid of Temple Street Childrens Hospital.
Erasmus+ work placements
Students from Coláiste Íde's Art Portfolio Preparation course, and those of the Fashion Design Portfolio Preparation course (both QQI Level 5), are feeling the flush of success this week, as they begin their Erasmus+ work placements in Florence, Italy.
Nursing Theory and Practice module
Well done to the Healthcare Level 5 students who completed practical training for the Nursing Theory and Practice module.
A big congrats to the successful candidates from the Sports course who worked hard and successfully passed their Lifeguard exam.

Gateway to Further Education and Training
This programme aims to address the identified training needs of people with ID who are experiencing exclusion and labour market disadvantage by providing learner focused training, inclusive education and related services to assist the learner to achieve a nationally recognised qualification, which will aid progression to third level education.
